Re: How to center in the 4 jaw
Me, I would be tempted to indicate off the inside of the jaws where they contact the part. As long as the two jaws opposite read the same the part is centered between them.

Re: Show us your lathe!

Re: Remotor or Rotary Phase Converter
I friend of mine runs his whole shop on one VFD and most VFD's are capable of doing that. The VFD is big enough to run at least two motors at a time, and the switches to turn on the machines are at the machines. So he turns on the VFD when he walks into the shop in the morning, and turns it off whe...

In other words, unless you are a "real" machinist, there isn't much a wanabe machinist can contribute. 99% of my posts are for advice. The few times I have contributed, I was corrected and rightly so by a "real" machinist. I found out over the years on forums that asking a quest...

Re: Solder is too Complicated for Me
If this is your case then your iron is to small. Go to a higher wattage iron and heat faster not allowingthe heat to travel up the wire.SteveHGraham wrote: In my experience, most wire insulation will melt and fall off before the wire gets hot enough to melt solder, .

Re: Any way to calculate the center point of this bend?
If I read the problem correctly you are bending rods of varying lengths and want both legs to come out the same length relative to each other. It would seem to me that you would have to place the rod in the bender aligned with a mark that represents the middle of the bend and let the ends fall where...

On the school machine I have, two of the threading gears were worn but the rest were pristine. It was obvious to me that those two threads were the same class project year after year.
