"The Amateur's Lathe" by L. H. Sparey, ISBN 0-85242-288-1 would be a good book purchase for you. Good luck and happy machining!

Check out Micro-Mark's Mini-Mill. It has dovetail column and variable speed DC motor that runs off regular AC current Their Mini-Lathe looks good as well, but I am in LOVE with my 1943 Wards PowerKraft. Best wishes and good luck on your quest!

It is a 96 Swedish Mauser that I have done some alterations on the firing pin in order to lighten it up a bit. The hinged floorplate is also some of my work, as well as the "Butterknife" handle.

The forearm came from a scrap from a friend's barn that was a leftover from one of his projects, Yes, it took several months to do it and "YES" it ought to be great on Squirrels (or Wild Turkeys, if it was legal). No, I don't have a mill of any kind. Sometimes, I wish I had one, but most o...

The hole for the barrel shank was drilled, bored, and threaded in the lathe, mounted on an angle plate o...

Re: Where to Obtain Raw Materials?
A place that repairs hydraulic cylinders is a good source for shafting. Don't know the alloy but it turns to a very nice finish and doesn't rust very quickly---must have a lot of Chrome in it.
