Re: Wheels under a mill drill?

Congrats on the mill purchase, I'm sure you'll find a myriad of things to do with it. Build the stand to suit your workshop space considerations and work methods, better that the wheels are only used for moving rather than actual footing, you'll get rocking if you manually crank the table axis' depe...

Re: Shaft removal

The bearings will all be replaced anyway I'm suspicious of them so I'm not worried about
trashing them with a slide hammer contraption I'm coming up with.

Re: Miniature millwork plus

Have you looked into what Micromark might have in terms of blades ?
They sell similar mini table saws like the Dremel, and Proxxon saws.

Super nice work on the hinges and frame.

Re: Shaft removal

*sigh* I agree with all the responses, without actually visiting the factory It's hard to say what conditions the mill was assembled in, so far I've found grinding dust everywhere there is a moving part, including inside the head, and now I'm debating whether to take the quill and spindle apart sinc...

Shaft removal

I've been slowly going over my new PM932pdf mill, vacuuming and rinsing out grinding dust, I'm at a point where I want to rinse out the head cavity that the gears are in, apparently a shield on a bearing "fell off" and it seemingly was run at the factory with the shield rattling around som...

Re: Big Joe

If the table is 8x30 I think it's a good match to the G0731 and therefore a source of parts if needed. I don't recall if you mentioned it but is the spindle made for R8 type tool holding ? Thats an important spec other wise it might be difficult to get tooling, R8 is plentiful and has a large price ...

Re: Big Joe

Did a little visual cross referencing, Herless SM 1 A vs G0731 they look almost like twins , Herless doesn't have the splash shield that the G0731 has. Go back and kick the tires on that Fugi mill again and measure the work table, quill travel, basically comparing the specs to the G0731 ( Grizzly ha...

Re: want a milling machine

I would not let support get in your way, even though I said I wasn't crazy about refurbing old iron, a deal is a deal
so for example if a good condition Deckle mill happened my way for an insanely good price ....

Re: Big Joe

Same here, Fugi went to Fuji, from what I've been able to find info wise it's similar to the small knee mills that Grizzly and Precision Mathews sells, except made in Taiwan, I doubt this is the same as the one you're looking at ( sorry for the long url )- http://www.netmachinery.net/cgi-bin/classif...

Re: want a milling machine

All I could find on it was over at PM - https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/general/big-joe-milling-machine-145757/ Big Joe used to be machine tool retailer in Houston. $!200 isn't a shabby price for it, might be worth going to take a look at it, It also leaves you $800 or so extra for milling acc...

Re: want a milling machine

2K isn't much of a budget when you factor the mill and tooling, I budgeted 4K when I bought my PM 932 PDF with a little wiggle room. If you're looking for older mills I would highly recommend narrowing down the smaller mills by looking into what the parts availability is in the used market ( ebay )....
