Re: Pipe,tube and bar bender

Over time there have been dozens of bender designs published in various model engineering magazines, intended for "model" tube sizes, 1/16" to 3/8" diam. I don't have a specific article, or list of articles on hand to post but a start would be to do a Google search. A search for ...

Re: Road Trip

Aside from the bars, honky-tonks, and general touristy rip-off joints, there are tons of good places to eat, and you might stop in at the Tennessee Central Railway Museum and see the beginnings of the re-assembly of NC&StL J-3 #576. https://www.nashvillesteam.org/ncstl-no-576/ located at https:/...

My recollection is that when referred to in code editions of the past, a "miniature" boiler was a different category of boiler, and the term didn't mean a model/hobby boiler.

Re: ASME BPVC Section I Power Boilers

Early in our club's history Tennessee had a really hard-nosed, by-the-book inspector. He would never accept that a few amateur builders could produce and operate safe boilers, of any size. A generation later the inspectors would occasionally come to our meets, but not to inspect boilers. They wanted...

Re: New York City - Live Steam

Captain Frederick Shaw, author and architect, dedicated the book “ Little Railways of the World” to Al Campbell, in 1958. This reminded me . . . I have that little book in front of me right now! I found it on the remainders table at one of the old bookshops here when I was a teenager. I think it co...

Re: New York City - Live Steam

I can recall hearing, or reading, about model engineering clubs in the City in the 1930s and 40s. It may have been in Model Boating magazine, which was big at the time, and there were a couple of steam castings suppliers, like A. Bohaboy (NJ), and Boucher (NYC) in the NYC area.

Re: Oil in My Boiler

For steam oil contamination I've always had success with very hot water and TSP (trisodiumphosphate), a pure detergent, and available at the big boxes, hardware, and paint supply stores.

Re: Live Steam Clubs in Europe?

An important question to research is how long a US citizen can live in residence, on a tourist visa, before he has to leave for a while? 90 days is typical, and unless you're employed by a company doing business in your destination country, you can't just pick up and move, plop yourself down, and sa...

Exactly the visual effect my string wrapping technique produces. Whatever insulating qualities is has are incidental.
