Re: EMD F7 in SCALE

Rmac,

Those are great little calculators! I used one in high school. It bugged most of the class because they could hear me 'cranking out the answer'. My brother and I also used it for sport car rallies.

Re: Derailments

Consider the elevator. In most places total automation. But as said, for total automation, lots of layers of safety and most cases forms of redundancy. Big point is all the reasons the elevator would not try to move. Only if everything lines up right, then it moves. If it does decide to stop, people...

Re: Derailments

I suspect that one thing confusing a lot of people was that the string of detectors showed a trend. But I don't think detectors do anything more than talk on the radio when they trigger. No over watching system that would have been able to see that a given train, with a given car, on a given axle wa...

I wonder if the elephant ears would work as heat sinks for the cold side?

Re: Wide Wheel Treads

I'd think these make do rail cars were on that track within a year or two of it being abandoned. Maybe even a week or two.

Re: Wide Wheel Treads

My guess is ex banana railroad or maybe a mine. What gauge does it look to everyone? I'm thinking the rail is pretty light but again not something my eye can pick very well.

Re: Alcalde & Coalfield High Line

I try to get around the railroads anytime there is a really big heavy rain. Great to see where there might be any issues with the drainage and you can plan some improvements. Sometimes it is interesting where you find the water going vs where you thought it would go.

Re: Fairbanks Morse Diesel components in 1/8th scale?

What I was impressed about the MC loco was the reason for picking it. That shape gave Bill the most room for motor and batteries of any of the other designs around. Big and boxy I'm trying to remember if it was 4 or 6 batteries in there. It has power for a full day of work and change to spare. Also ...

Remember that the colors of a can, after sitting out for months, could be very different from what it was originally.

Re: Maximum axle weight

Thinking about limits, here are a few to consider: 1. Vehicle limit for any nearby roads/bridges. Not likely to matter. 2. Vehicle limits to reach the unloading area. Things like turning radius, overhead, or road dips and bumps. 3. Length of lift, turntable or transfer table. Longest piece that fits...

Thank you for the rest of the pictures etc... of your support system. It is now much clearer how it comes together.

Re: Alcalde & Coalfield High Line

That's a great description and slide set. Only thing I'd ask would have been the picture of it coming out of the mold to confirm what the final looks like with bolts and tube etc... and how those are used. Biggest thing is your use of plastics for the molds. We are doing signal mast bases and also u...
