I will say this....
Dick Bagley's Disney 173, having the 2.125 bore could pull like like crazy.

Re: Resizing cylinder bore
Unless it's been redesigned at some point over the years, the piston bore of a RRSC CP173 is 1.500 diameter. That's the bore as designed and marketed by the original (Chet Peterson era) RRSC. The RRSC cylinder casting was bored to 1.750, as I recall, to receive a liner having a wall thickness of .12...

Re: Expanded obituary for Barry Hauge
Here is a picture of Barry with some of his oldest and dearest friends. From left to right are Lou Soibelman with his back to the camera, Jack Corrick, Jim Kreider, myself, Barry and Charlie Dockstader sitting at his boiler Barry used to test his safety's. Lou, Charlie and Barry are together again ...

Re: Just recieved sad news that Barry Hauge has passed away
I called Barry the other day to shoot the breeze. No indication as to any problem(s). We talked about the Moseley generator and the recent thread here regarding it. Barry also told me during our talk he was working on a new injector to market.
Anyone know what happened/cause.

As I recall, Francis sent the complete shaft/turbine wheel/armature assembly out to be balanced.

Re: Differences between Mosely and L.S. Pyle National MO6 Generators?
Francis Moseley was the founder of Servo Products. Both the CNC mini mill and lathe were shown by Servo at trade shows.... The mill was often demonstrated by machining copies of the MO6 turbine wheel. The lathe was a Hardinge HSL-59 "Simple Operation Lathe", which had 9" swing and a b...

Re: Fittings
Here is what I wrote in answer to a similar question posted a few years ago.... One thing you DON'T want to use inside your smokebox.... Would be any fittings made from a "yellow" free machining brass such as 360 brass. The high zinc content in these brasses will burn/leech out under the h...

Re: Crank Pins, Material and Clearance
I'd go with 4140HT, which is pre-hardened to Rc32. 4140HT machines nicely and threading the pins shouldn't be any problem.
If you want to go really exotic, you can use 52100 heat treated and ground.... But 4140HT will more than do the job.

Re: And we are back!!
Sigh.... I know that the look of provided upgrades are at the mercy of the companies who write them. But since Windows 8 came onto the scene, screen graphics have become flat, bland, are all cookie cutter in appearance and contain less information/text per screen area view.... All brought about and ...

Re: Looking for Harry Haas ATSF Northern design
As I recall, Harry used a trailing truck frame cast from the pattern made for Lew Soibelman's ATSF 2-10-4. I believe Jack Sessums made that pattern.

Re: Has anyone every tried to build an SP 2-8-8-4 AC-9?
....However, I have had trouble locating any drawings and I'm starting to wonder if the original Lima drawings still exist. Besides the erecting and cross sections, Roger Goldmann has a few other drawings for the AC9 ( http://www.livesteamlocomotives.com/drawings/sp_ac-9_2-8-8-4.htm ). These drawin...

Ed Yungling's cab forward is an AC10 class, not an AC12.
