Like Glenn said, using coolant improves finish and really increases tool life. for now :( mine is a total loss hand held atomizer but for sure flood is on the to do list. I think the rancid coolant tank problem is more from the days when organic soluble oils were used....the only downstroke to the n...

congrats Jose, good for you for commercializing the table. i think you guys are sort confusing 2 things a bit, speed and sensitivity. Speed is desirous but not necessary whereas sensitivity is a must for very small drills. The theoretical speeds for these very tiny drills have little practical meani...

i haven't single pointed an internal acme thread but a 5/8 internal that is 1.75 long sounds dang near impossible. The acme thread cutting tool, because of the width of cut, undergoes a lot of cutting force and at that length, it is a long of over hang on a spindly boring bar. Then throw in the lowe...

Tim, I agree with the other guys if you have to knurl it, but why not use cylindrical loctite? the knurled drill rod will chew the the bore of whatever the gears are made out, unless its something hard. Normally a press fit works by creating compression/tension - if the act of pressing the gear on o...

hing wrong with that. Mcgyver , I'll do a little research on those Buffalo 18s. Thanks! --Bill i didn't mean to imply that that machine is up to milling, far from it. what i meant was that a round column is not indicative of a light or cheap machine and doesn't stand in the way of performance at it...

it is possible to build such a machine, its called a mill :) Why does a drill press have a single round column? Gee. That seems to be the source of almost EVERY problem. mines a buffalo 18, far from a toy and its a round column.....no problem at all when used for drilling Why couldn't a drill press ...

Haven't done it but I'd bet like most steels get it red and it'll bend easily....but then what? The challenge is in re heat treating it, everything I've ever read says heat treading HSS is tricky, requiring exact temps and not something feasible in the home shop. you won't bend it without heating th...
