Re: Building my 1.5" scale Clishay as a beginner

Just a thought, would you want to plumb one burner, perhaps the center one, to a separate gas supply to act as a pilot light? That way you could shut off all the others and let the boiler "simmer" on a long down grade or at the station and them easily turn up the heat as you pull away or e...

Re: Depth of slot for a 1/4" broach bushing?

Could you measure the depth of the slot in a standard 1.5" bushing and make the depth the same in your 1.462" bushing?

I got a kick out of seeing the same wood lathe I got from my dad in the opening sequence.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

The tenders were equipped with a special water spray head to wet down the first few cars in the train lest the wood roof tops catch on fire from the ash falling from the exhaust plume of the stack ... Be a nice touch to include in your tender when you get that far. It would certainly keep rowdy pas...

Re: convert 3ph to 1ph

Look back to my previous post. I have used that vfd on my Bridgeport for a number of years. No problems, variable speed is very handy. I have heard nothing but positive reports on that brand/model.

Re: Cooling tig water

An automotive heater core (or a Red Dot Heater) with a 110 volt electronics muffin fan behind it would be just the thing for a tig cooler.

Re: convert 3ph to 1ph

Teco FM-50 VFDs work very well. Not sure what size motor is in your machine, pick the vfd to fit. It is ok to go one size bigger, just not smaller. The machine will act just as if it were connected to native 3 phase, plus you get variable speed. Here is a link: http://www.factorymation.com/Products/...

Re: Temporary track

British Columbia Society of Model Engineers had an article on their temporary Christmas track which I downloaded that would be just what you are looking for. Unfortunately I can't get the photos to load from my hard drive.

If you contact them they probably can send you a copy of the article.

Find a plumber, offer a 6 pack of beer to thread them.

Just noticed you are in the UK offer him several Pints.

I would be afraid of getting delayed or distracted by something and the switch throwing in the middle of the train.

Re: Is variable speed a worthwhile upgrade?

I would go with a power feed for the spindle and a step pulley drive with a VFD on the motor. Best of both worlds without the mechanical complexities of the vari-speed drive.
