Re: Who says 1" scale can't hold up?
Matt, Glad to hear no one was hurt. By the same token sorry and saddened to hear this happened. Hope the person responsible steps up. To comment on Greg's safety post, I am personally all for there being at least some kind of safety briefing or film that is required to be attended or watched. Engine...

Re: Actual Battery Capacity on 7.5" scale operation.
With something like this the only way your really going to know how long said charge will last on said track......is to run on said track and see what happens. Different batteries will produce different result as there are differences in materials even when going from one batch of the same batteries...

Re: Specs for a robust PM motor, controller, wiring diagram.
Chet, Scooter motors can be bought through many sources. I have found many on Ebay for reasonable prices. As for how many per trucks or per locomotive that is a personal choice. I have seen them with 1 per truck or 2 per truck. Just depends on how much pulling power, type of controller, size of batt...

Sounds like a blast to me! A nice jaunt up the freeway and I am there . I dont have any running equipment as of yet but me and the kids would very much love a ride . Looks like you have an awesome layout.

Re: gears vs chain
I had a chance to run a little electric similar to what my husie is a couple monthes back and it didn't seem to noisy. But then again I am a rookie at this. It there a trick to making it quiet? Lube, proper or appropriate gear/sproket size?

Re: gears vs chain
John, I am building a Super Huskie and have been told that the chain drive is much more forgiving in case of a derailment. Both work equally as well but heard in a derailment that the gear are prone to stripping as the chain and sprocket setup gives preventing any stripping. I would think in absolut...

Re: Freight car roofing material?
I am new to large scale railroading but there is a technique I use in my R/C aircraft that is reasonably light but is also water proof. How about F/G cloth coated in something like Minwax Polyacrylic? Its like a lower and lighter form of fiberglassing but if done right can be just as tough as glassi...

Re: Good steamers for beginners, any advice?
I forgot to add in my last post. I hope I didn't come off as pushing 1.5" scale but for me it is the smallest I feel comfy on. For me I like the smaller stuff too but my 240LBS+ butt is just too big :? . Like Matt said choose what best fits you and what you want to do. Its all about fun remembe...
