Re: St. Louis train museum

As others have said, not much to worry about visiting the museum. Like every major city, there are some areas where trouble finds you, but the location of the Museum of Transportation is not one of those areas in St. Louis. If you go in May, you could also plan your trip on a weekend to take advant...

Millner-Haufen cutoff wheel

I just bought a Millner-Haufen 4-1/2" cutoff wheel(https://millnertools.com/) for an angle grinder. it is coated with diamond dust, 40 grit on one side and 80 grit on the other. It cost $150 and has an unlimited life time warranty. I have never heard of this company before and have not found an...

Re: St. Louis train museum

Well my plans have changed agan.I was going a few years earlier, but the race riots in Saint Louis stopped that. Now I planned for the period between Christmas and New Years, but now the weather bureau issued severe weathr for the mid west, so that ends those plans. Now I'm shooting for springtime, ...

Re: St. Louis train museum

Mr. Ron, The museum has done a nice job installing pavement so a good part of the railroad collection is reachable by scooter. There are some under the big shed that is ballast between the tracks. The plane and auto collection is indoors. The museum is actually near Kirkwood well west of St Louis. ...

Re: Check this G gauge line....

I too have no words to describe the minatur wunderland. Their G scale musical display is yet another fine accomplishment. Imagine the cost of the track alone; the engineering that went into it. I will never see the minatur wunderland in person, but if I were to get there, I could never leave. The pe...

"Precision" made hydraulic cylinders

I watch machining videos on youtube and have to laugh at how some machining is done in 3rd world countries. Hop around in this video and see the incredible ways they machine. I think the country is India, or possibly Pakistan. Hydraulic cylinders have to be made with precision machining, but this vi...

Re: Way Protection

I too am getting on in years (88) and my 8" chucks are indeed heavy. I have a bed protector many years (piece of plywood), but wouldn't stop a chuck from rolling off and unto my foot. I will have to do something about it for safety. The broomstick idea sounds good.

Re: St. Louis train museum

Mr Ron, we visited in 2015 and had a very enjoyable time. It's in an expensive suburb southwest of St Louis, we had no safety concerns. The staff were very friendly and outgoing. One gentleman saw us looking at their passenger cars and insisted on getting the keys and walking us through them! There...

Re: St. Louis train museum

Can you give me a review of the train museum in St. Louis.will I be safe going there? My wife and I visited that museum in 2003. We thoroughly enjoyed it, even my wife, who is not wont to get excited standing next to a Big Boy. :D As said, that area is not infested with the sort of folks who make g...

Most Dangerous Machine

If you watch this video, go to the end. This is the most dangerous machine I have ever seen anyone make that would in a split second destroy an arm or hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2tHwbgUb3I .Something like this should never be entertained as being a legitimate tool.

Re: Drilling Holes In 3mm Galvanized Steel Straightforward?

You mention using a pillar drill; a pillar drill in the U.S. is an old style drill that was mounted to a wood post, usually in a barn. Are you referring to a drill press or is it actually a post mounted drill?

St. Louis train museum

Can you give me a review of the train museum in St. Louis. I want to go there to visit and I am a 10 hours drive from South Mississippi. My question is; is it worth a visit? A 10 hour drive for me is very tiring since I am 88. My son will be going also to assist me. This will be a 3 day venture; 2 d...
