Re: Air Pump Governors...?

I can't speak for others, but my steam air pumps are quite reliable. Works exactly like full size. Idles at a slow rate and the governor kicks it in at the set pressure. Air use is minimal. Following full size practice cylinders and rigging are set up correctly for minimum travel thus low air usage....

Re: Air Pump Governors...?

Art Olds (RIP) and myself worked out independant designs after a discussion years ago. Miniaturized air compressor governors are certainly possible. See these past posts for some details. I have no drawings at this time. http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=91080&hilit=gov...

Re: Looking for steam gauge?

Those USG P500 process gauges have always been my favorite. All metal cases and
interiors. Easy to replace the bezel with a turned brass flared style.

Re: Injector help

Peter, I see no tender connection. How are you supplying water to the injector? The symptom you describe is exactly what happens when a loose water connection allows air to enter with water. This is a suction line. Absolutely must be air tight. A tight fitting rubber hose pushed on to the copper tub...

Re: Compressed Air Locomotive

There has been a family bring their pacific to Mid South LS meets.
The last car in a long train carried a gasoline air compressor with an air hose
running forward over the cars to the loco. They ran just as much as others
having no trouble keeping up. Silly, but amazing.

Re: Sunbeam Steam Generator

Brian,
I have one of those casting sets. A Pyle National Type E.
I plan on electrifying it someday. The stator laminations
are already cut via EDM. The gen case is mighty thin tho.

Re: Moseley Steam Generaor

John, I'm very familiar with the Moseley Dyno. It is an alternator (AC) only. No brushes. Are you sure it's a Moseley? There should be a small lablel (F Moseley) and the top case "hinge" lugs will have a wire pin thru. The turbine rotor shaft will have a hex nut retaining the wheel. If it ...

Re: Two for one sale

Years ago I witnessed a CSX MOW crew operating a huge track undercutting machine. This looks like a dual bucket wheel pipeline trencher with a huge chainsaw attachment that is lowered and swung UNDER the crossties as the machine travels slowly pulling out all the dirt and ballast rock which is then ...

Re: 5-40 threads

I have been in the Live Steam hobby from way back when. Threads are a specialty of mine. There are many thread systems out there used in many different trades and industrial component types. What you see on thread charts are only the common nut & bolt stuff. Re: the 1/8-56 thread. This would be ...

Re: switch point material and design

CStP&P and NGLS follow prototype designs. (7-1/2" gauge) We standardize on a fixed point length of 24" and a heel offset of 1". The point material is 1/2 x 1" steel C channel. Sharp bend (kink) the channel at 12" for a 1/2" offset at the end toward the legs side. Ma...
