Re: Steam powered box mill.

Interesting, but a death trap, although the dog's tail was the only casualty in evidence. Maybe the others have been buried. I loved the digital readout temperature controller almost as much as the wiring on the back of the heating platen. Thanks for sharing RCW. i think there may be a pinch...

Re: Are we heading toward idiocracy?

nothing cheap about the price of a whirlpool duet washer/dryer set. i did not provide the written warranty on these units they did. i am also sure sales distributors boast these warrantees as major selling points.

Are we heading toward idiocracy?

Ok. So my front load washer has taken a serious dump. The "spider" which is a an ALUMINUM part that is attached to the STAINLESS STEEL basket which has a huge exposed surface area, and which is also submerged in a variety of liquid regulary has broken. This part looks to be very corroded a...

Re: solvent weldling of plastics

why the two types of plastic? aesthetics. mouthfeel on the end played? just curious. doesn't look like a huge diameter difference to turn as one piece. course maybe with that many it would be.

solvent weldling of plastics

I sometimes need to machine items of plastic and affix tubes and such to them securely. what types of plastics am I looking for that are machinable and solvent weldable. I seem to find a huge amount of the solvent resistive variety but very little round stock that reacts with solvents. I have delrin...

Re: One-way needle bearings?

we have an offset duplicator at work which has them on the dampening roller. this is so when the machine is rotated backwards for any reason the roller does not turn with everything else and cannot dump all the water clinging to it onto the plate and cylinder. right now this bearing is bad and does ...

low paying jobs

I am not saying all pay should be the same for all work, but I feel that anyone who posts a job with pay out of line with the skill and experience they desire should get a resopnse that informs this in a very concise and firm way. Kinda like informing businesses about very poor service. It helps wee...

Re: about carbide brazing/silver soldering

references to soldering and brazing are often used interchangeably but incorrectly. soldering by definition is done at lower temps in the 400-500 degreee range. this will not work for cutting bits as they will melt and release. brazing on the other hand is done at much higher melting points and shou...

Re: The end of the Tank water heater?

just so long as there is not an"edinpure" high effiency tankless water heater coming soon near me. you know, the edinpure heater can effectively lower your heating bill. especially if you live in a cold climate area where electric heat is basically unheard of. just don't check your electri...

Re: basic geometry of linkages explained to caveman

i suddenly feel small and insignificant, yet relish the idea of grasping something a bit better than before. I may try a model of some kind. I was trying to draw them as simple triangles with changing legs length as the pivot moves, but got very confused. geometry and trig were about 30+ years ago. ...
