Re: Patio's projects

Just bought a Mitutoyo 293-815, 0-1" digital outside micrometer for 30 bucks of Craigs List. It ain't pretty, but I prefer function over form anyway. Not that it isn't nice to have pretty tools. I now can measure tolerances that my machine can not reliably make. :) This one is dust and water pr...

Re: Patio's projects

Thanks for all the encouragement, but before you follow me over the cliff. I think I may have just gotten lucky. Here is a sketch of the mechanism that is in mine. P1010094.JPG It is a rack and pinion type set up. I don't know if my terminology is right or not. I would think that a setup that has a ...

Re: Patio's projects

Harold the one I have is a "SPOT-ON 639T Made in England" I have not been able to find any info on this indicator. I have done a Google search, and nothing! So I have no idea of its worth. Some pieces are missing from the set, most notably the clamp. If anyone knows anything about this ind...

Re: Patio's projects

Another project completed! At he gears show I had bought a "Spot-On" dti that had .0005 graduations. I was happy with my purchase, till I got it home, and discovered that it would stick if only moved a couple thousandths from 0, and would not return to 0. Tonight I did a little searching o...

Re: Patio's projects

Looks like it will be a couple of weeks before I get to start the bike build. Today while chasing all the holes in the cases with a tap, I discover to small cracks, on the boss that the generator mounts to. The cases are over at a friends place to get welded and milled. I will take pictures as the b...

Thanks to all you Veterans from me.

I never had to serve our GREAT country, (to young then and now to old) but I do appreciate all of you that did.
It has allowed me to do and say what ever I wanted to all my life.

Thanks
Pat

Re: Patio's projects

Cellar door is done. Both the weights are hung, and the light comes on when the door is opened. I did not get a picture of the light switch, but it is a pretty simple set up. The light is a pull string porcelain type fixture. I hung a sheave on the ceiling for the string to be able to make a 90 degr...

Re: Patio's projects

Harold I do enjoy it well enough that is for sure.
Even if I sell the one bike I will still have two. A 74 sportster and a 2000 Road King, the later you have seen. :)

Re: Patio's projects

Waiting on weight to set, second weight will have to wait for the first weight to set, as I only made one, weight, form, to save on materials. Here are the pics. The form. The original was a 12"x12" and weighed 40 lbs, I am making two 25lbs weights this time, and figure an 8"x12"...

Re: Patio's projects

The cellar door is mostly complete. I still need to make the weights and maybe an automatic light switch. Here are some pictures of where I am with it now. PA300076.JPG PA300077.JPG PA300078.JPG In the last picture you can see the weight I was using on the original setup, which use to be similar to ...

Re: Patio's projects

Got some more work done on the counter weighted cellar door I am building. I took some quick pics before the sun went down this evening. I have to, add gussets to inside corners, drill the frame for the screws that will hold the wood to the frame, cut the 1/4 plywood that will make it water proof, m...
