There were some great posts a few months back, mostly based on Harold's excellent grinding advise. A short time back I had no idea how to grind a decent bit for specific purposes, but I'm learning. Basically, fly cutters cut on the end of the bit as it traverses the surface of the work piece. So fir...

It depends on the size of the motor, AND what you do with it. If you have a motor considerably larger than stock, and don't do stuff like roughing hard steel at larger diameters, then a VFD might work well. For reference, I have an 11" Rockwell with 1hp OEM motor and reeves drive. I wanted to g...

Hmmm, no idea if this is relevant, but... One of my recent "high density storage" acquisitions had a bunch of buttons in it, and a bunch of pin like thingies. I know how to use buttons, and they were in the same drawer as the "pin like thingies", so I suspect both were used for l...

Now that would be the "cat's meow" (and then some). I've got a 2 axis, and frankly don't need more. BUT, having a combined quill/knee would be so very nice for those times when you want to just raise the quill to change a tool temporarily, then back to the first, without loosing your "...

It is a small Nikon "point and shoot". All I did was turn off the flash, stick it in the adapter, and click. I had expected to have to switch to manual (PIA on this one) but it worked ok without. I want to try it with other modes along with manual, but I was really surprised how well it di...

Oh, forgot to answer the other question. It cuts fine! And it is currently my "general use" 1/4" EM. I tend to cycle through them in stages. When one stops cutting on the end, it becomes my go-to for "side mill" operations. In other words, I use it if there is no plunge mill...

Mount is not very interesting at all. Just a PVC adapter bushing turned to fit the camera lens on one side, and the eyepiece on the other. Loose slip fits (don't want to skin anything up), it locates on the flat surface anyway. Looks just like a short piece of PVC.

Hey guys, finally got around to making a camera adapter for my new microscope. Worked out pretty well. This is the point edge of a 1/4 TiN coated solid carbide end mill. I thought it was still in pretty good shape, by naked eye you could only see that the gold color was missing in a few tiny little ...

I posted a pic of a floating hex-die holder recently. That design could easily be adapted to a floating reamer or tap. It's simply a spindle/bearing arrangement that is locked and un-locked with a primitive dog clutch. All in all an easy lathe project with a small bit of mill work (for the clutch).

Well, now I'm stumped. Looks like my router just decided I spend too much time on the web and is now blocking PM. I can get anywhere I want except there. Acts just like the site is down. Ping won't go through with either DNS Name or IP. BUT, if I bypass the router, it works just fine. Looking at the...
