Re: Looking for CNC lathe recommendations
Thoughts on the Emco Compact 5 CNC? There is a complete, running system available at a good price near me. Thanks Chris Emco compact 5's are decent little lathes. Coupled with a more modern control like Centroid, Mach or Linux, and you can work within it's limitations, you should enjoy it until you...

Re: Getting password reset
Tom, please PM (Private Message) me your correct email address. I sent you an email with the email address we had on file. You are correct, it bounced so you changed email addresses but did not update it in your User Control Panel. You can do this yourself by clicking on your name in the upper right...

Re: Steel Grab Irons
Hmmm, somthing must have been edited out before I read the previous notes as I didn't see anything regarding copying published material. If that was previously offered, then fair point. Regards, Mountaineer. The reference to provide a copy of the article was removed from the original post. I apolog...

Re: Steel Grab Irons
The offer to copy and send potentially copyrighted material and involving the Chaski Home Machinist can not be tolerated. Making a reference to an article and citing the issue in which it appeared is not a problem.

Re: Ballscrew tolerances and real world performance
glass scales are a problem on lathes that small. many companies sell other than 'glass scales' that are much thinner...the big problem, even if you CAN get the glass scale on the lathe is loss of tailstock positioning toward the chuck when working with very small parts. I would be surprised if you ...

Re: Ballscrew tolerances and real world performance
When I get home, will have to see if my slim line glass encoder could even remotely fit the cross slide on my 8x14 lathe, I doubt it. It would be the closed loop stepper or servo driver that would read the quadrature glass scale input, correct? On an 8x14" lathe, the C7 ballscrews with close l...

Re: Building a CNC router
I have been at it for 3 years. I'm in the process of putting my CNC router together. I have all the parts except for the motors and electronics. It measures 36 x 84 and was meticulously designed to be rigid. As with any ongoing project, I will always find places where improvements can be made. I fi...
