That's Google who made that decision. A greedy bunch, if there ever was one.

Re: youtube ads increasing?

Frustrated with the ever increasing advertisements. Don't know if it is my location in the Philippines but I get an ad every 2 or 3 minutes. Like to know if you are experiencing the same problem in your country? The ads are increasing and have become disruptive. I can live with an ad before the sta...

Looks as though the loco had a bad plate of spaghetti for dinner. Gotta watch it with the meat you put into the sauce.

Re: DRO for the surface grinder

I'm at a loss to understand why a DRO would be of much benefit. I've operated surface grinders for years and get by nicely with the dials. I'm open to being educated in why a DRO would be useful. I may be missing something. I'll second Harold on that. Especially with a surface grinder, you are maki...

BDD. Nice job I may steal your idea. Wasn't my idea, though. I recall this sort of thing on lathes back when I was in high school (chronological hint: JFK was president when I was a senior). I'm always "borrowing" ideas from others. :D The impetus to make it came from my buddy Carl's lath...

Re: EMD F7 in SCALE

There was also responses including one modeler that would turn the ridges into the plastic round stock, then part it off, flip it around in a fixture and cut the convex surface, then polish it all clear. Seemed like a ton of work but looked really nice. I recall that and was impressed with the resu...

Armature taps, field weakening, and rheostats, mostly. There were also elegant systems such as Ward-Leonard <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward_Leonard_control> and Amplidyne <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amplidyne> . The 10EE used a variation on the Ward-Leonard system for a while. The ship on wh...

Downwind is where it goes; but of course, my downwind is someone's upwind.
As long as you don't break wind when you're upwind and I'm downwind... :D

Re: XARO: Putting Yesterday's Technology to Work

In regards to the lathe's "exhaust"...Coolant and long travel indicators don't get along real well, so I used to slip a plastic bag over the indicator, one that completely covered the stem and the entire indicator body. Hmm...I wonder if my wife would notice that the one gallon food stora...

That's where eBay is your friend. You can get a 2 inch DI for a reasonable price. In fact, you could buy a lot of DIs with the money required to purchase one DRO.
