Re: Bronze/Brass Investment Foundry in SE USA

Many years ago I knew an older gentleman in Ft Lauderdale that did all of the bronze casting for Chris-Chraft back when they were still building wood boats in Pompano Beach. I was searching to see if they may possibly still be in business, which they are not, but I did run across this: http://www.am...

Re: Mill work holding advice ?

A challenge with holding just the shaft in the vise is that there is so much projecting or overhanging from the vise that it is difficult to keep it level. Place a machinist jack under the end not in the vise, and then sweep the shaft area to be cut with a DTi to check for parallelism with the tabl...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet

Unless you are using a press brake where you can control where the center of the bend will be, and you have a true radius on the die, trying to calculate accurate bends is an exercise in frustrtion. Do as "arborist" states, and use index marks on test pieces for reference and adjust accord...

...and if your vise is indicated parallel to the table travel and set up properly using a stop, you will already have 0,0 to reference from.

Re: 1911 Project

Made a new side plate to correct the scope angle, as it was .5 degree off. Now everything is perfectly concentric with the dot when looking through the scope.

Now I'll shoot it for a while and then send it out for Ionbond DLC finish.

Re: 1911 Project

I had it running at 540fps with some other loads. These, I'm pretty sure, are still under 600 and eject perfectly horizontal. I need to chrono them just to see. I had a faster twist barrel made to better stabilize the 180 grain semi wadcutters that I shoot at lower velocities. I have a friend workin...

Re: Buying a new parting tool

I'd say that tool overhang is probably the biggest part of the issue. Look at how far the parting tool blade is from the center post of your QCTP. What is happening is that your parting tool is flexing downward under the cutting load. A different style parting tool that would fit directly into the Q...

Re: Buying a new parting tool

An image of your setup may help, and what size lathe?

Could possibly be too much tool overhang

Thanks earlgo, that is interesting!

I have a pair of propeller blades for that. They have the Ford logo stamped in the blade butts.

Re: 1911 Project

In a post in October 2021 you discussed having to move the ejector cut to accommodate the incorrect position. It’s been a long time since I dealt with that but it seems like that was not a mistake. Thank you for the complement! The interesting part there is that I have two Caspian .45 slides. One w...

Re: 1911 Project

Been working on the second one for a while. Just working on finishing up the scope mount.

This one has the scope mounted to the frame so it has less reciprocating mass and the scope is closer to the barrel.

A sheet of 1/8 Masonite has been on my main bench for over 20 rears of daily use now.

It has withstood just about everything.
