drill press problems

Mike, I'll get the paperwork out and check the belt settings for rpms. Yeah, table deflexion, other than the obvious tearing up of a "decent" drill press , is the other main reason I have decided not to even attempt milling on the drill press. There just is no way to prevent the table from...

drill press problems

Mike, I got absolultely no trouble shooting done last night. Tonight for sure. I began to notice problems trying to drill 3/8" holes in the 2" channel. The last bit I smoked was a 1/8". I do not know what rpm. That may be another problem as well. I would assume now that the subject ha...

drill press problems

Hmmm, Sounds like three problems or perhaps a combination of.... I have fried four bits so far. Three of them I bought in a set from HF. One 1/8" bit was one bought separately. The HF bits are brass colored on the end, and I suspect were not the top of the line jobs because of price. Maybe a le...

Drill press problems

I have a Tractor Supply drill press that is giving me fits. When I first bought it I gave some thought to doign some light milling, but figured I'd trash it so never did. In the meantime it has served well doing light drilling. A while back I was attempting to drill holes in 2" channel. I have ...

Passenger car truck castings

Pinging Jack Owens or someone who knows him.

I'm looking for drawings for some heavyweight six-wheel passenger car trucks that Jack cast in aluminum for a bud a while back. The castings are in hand, but no drawings.

Cast box car ends

Chris, I am currently shopping a 1980's vintage boxcar for the C&IG that is built entirely of wood except the center beam. The ends are plywood, and an enterprising individual split round stock of the correct diameter, then shaped the ends on a belt sander or similar, and attached to the ends to...

Okay, stupid question(s).

Starting out one chucks the thing into the three or four jaw and machines the back flat, turns it around and faces to correct thickness then bores a hole for the arbor, and everything else is done on an arbor, right?
Thanks,
Brian

Having failed miserably trying to to a little silver soldering with one of those itsy butane pencil type torches I have been in the market for an acetylene kit. Figured a guy needs a cutting torch anyhoo..... I recently replaced a water heater and a bud had one of those ends that screws onto the but...
