Consequences due to lack of penetration because of inexperience welders.

A couple of months ago we had some high wind gust and it literally blew down a 50ft hanger door. Luckily there was nobody close to the door at the time or people could have been killed. Below are some pictures of the door laying on the hangar floor and the quality of welds on the door including the ...

Re: Piston or Wedge

I started out with a piston style and it worked great but when I got my new lathe I went with the wedge style and am glad I did. Seems to work more smoothly and solidly.

Re: Ash & Co. Chuck info

I am extremely happy with that runout, I really didn't know what to expect as far as runout so I was hoping for anything under .001 and when I got much better than that I was pleasantly pleased.

Re: Ash & Co. Chuck info

The serial number is 3/031149 so I was wondering if that breaks down to maybe march of 2003 and it was the 1149th one made. Seems to be a quality chuck. After getting it mounted to a backing plate got it dialed in at about .0004 up at the jaws and about .0005 4in. out from the jaws. The chuck that c...

Ash & Co. Chuck info

Bought an 8in. 3 jaw chuck off eBay that is made by Ash & Co. made in England and even a google search doesn't pull up much info on them. Looks to be a well-made chuck but I would love some info on them if anyone has any.

The 1236T looks just like my Grizzly g4003g with a couple slight differences. I love my g4003g so I am sure you will like the 1236T.

Re: PB Blaster is Snake Oil

I have never really had luck with any so called penetrating oils when removing rusted hardware. The best luck I have ever had was heat and once broken loose any kind of thin oil that will help with lubrication when turning the hardware.

Re: Let us discuss

All I have to say is I wonder how many lines of code and who coded it. To me, it's simply amazing to be able to sit back and watch a computer control a machine from start to finish.

What is a good rust preventative for machine storage.

So after 4 or 5 months of my lathe and mill sitting unused, I noticed more than acceptable rust build up on various pieces and parts so it got me thinking what is a good spray on rust preventative. I would have thought the way oil and other lubricants would have prevented the humidity from causing a...
