Re: Help in identifying a millport mill

I guess the reason I want to know the exact model is for when I need something for it I can search for an exact part in case the bridgeport part is different. Two items that come to mind are the felt wipers for the ways and the varispeed belt. Not sure if the bridgeport parts are the same or not. I ...

Help in identifying a millport mill

Bought a used Millport mill and would like some help in identifying it. It is a varispeed model and has a 3hp 3 phase motor and the table is 9x42. See pictures below. I was told it was manufactured in 1987.

Phase inverter "VFD" or Rotary phase converter

I know this gets brought up every now and then but I have some questions. I just bought a used Millport mill with a 3hp 3 phase motor. The machine is variable speed already so I do not care about using a VFD to vary the speed of the machine. I have read that some people say their 3ph motors growl wh...

Looking for manual for Millport Mill

I am buying a Millport vertical mill next week and was trying to find a manual for it. Can't find one online anywhere. It is a 1987 model variable speed and would like to locate the manual for it.

Any recommendations?

Is pivoting the threading dial out of engagment important?

I notice many people pivot the threading dial away from the lead screw when not using it. I have always left mine engaged. Since it doesn't spin fast I didn't figure any significant amount of wear would occur but I want to get you guys opinion.

Machining 9Ni-4Co-0.3C steel.

Re: vises ?

tornitore45 Hard to explain but here is a picture of a kurt and if you look at where the end of the vise you can see a cap that has been staked on. That is the enclosed lead screw nut and it prevents chips from touching the threads of the leadscrew. My shars 440V is the same way. When I get home fr...

Re: vises ?

I have a kurt 5 in. and a shars 4in. model 440V which is their premium china made vise. I love the kurt but like you it is too heavy and actually too big for my mill. My shars 440V vise is really nice considering the price. My shars vise is the vise that stays on my machine and is used 95 percent of...
