Re: M0-6 Pyle National

If there was a relatively simple way to put real functional bearings (micro sealed ball bearings?) in the old LS generator, I might do that I'd see if I could make a drone motor fit. They are unbelivably cheap and with improvements in magnets it is likely you can get more output than from the origi...

Re: M0-6 Pyle National

My comments on a working generator started about here, but there is considerable information from others earlier in this thread. http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/vie ... &start=120

Re: M0-6 Pyle National

Long gone supplier LS Supply made an MO-5 about 30 years ago. It was lower quality that Mosely's. The electrical parts were a small, off the shelf DC motor. My recollection is that they sold some of the castings as non-working when their source of motors ran out. There was an article not too long ag...

I have read that graphite from a pencil will prevent silver solder from sticking.

Re: Curious about a few live steam locomotives

The LE Pacific built by Floyd Epperson and owned for many years by Pat Durand was sold two or three years ago and I believe it now resides in the Las Vegas area. It needed a boiler overhaul when it was sold.

FS - ELESCO Patent Plates - SOLD

I drew up and investment cast some Elesco patent plates that pretty closely follow a 1941 BLW drawing. Material is silicon bronze. However, I found that they weren't accurate for the locomotive I'm modeling. As best as I can tell, these would be correct for a locomotive of that date fitted with Eles...

Re: USATC S-160 Consolidation

Win some, loose some. I was able to take the plates I cast to visit the pictured prototype from ARR 557 and compare. Although mine faithfully followed the drawing, they are wrong. Elesco supplied the plates for the locomotives. I'm guessing that Baldwin used a generic drawing and it wasn't important...

Re: Drafting issues

Look for a manometer, a gauge to measure pressure differentials and can be used for small differences. For stationary testing you can make one from a U shaped piece of clear vinyl tubing. I have an old mechanical manometer and it's about 6" diameter, but when I needed to check the sensor in my ...

I haven't had any luck with ultrasonic, including if I add a bit of citric acid and detergent. However, It may be that my ultrasonic cleaner is on the wimpy side.

Re: Investment Removal

An older thread, but I'll respond anyway. I've had luck removing investment with a pressure washer. The investment I've been cleaning was on the outside of parts, but if a piece of tubing was fitted onto the wand you might be able do the interior - at least that's what some have used for cleaning sc...
