Chambering a barrel
Bob, Your question can have many answers depending on where you are starting from. 1. Are you building a new barrel? IE: Drilling and rifeling or are you buying a barrel that is drilled and rifled? If you are buying a barrel that is drilled and riffled then if it is rifled to a known caliber it must...

Holding a Barrel In a Lathe
Gentlemen, I'm quite new to gunsmithing but I am learning. My question is what do you put inside the chuck jaws to keep from maring a barrel but yet still have enough precision to ream the barrel. I've seen demo's with what looks like some kind of "tape" that sticks to the jaws. I'm using ...

Done Deal
I ordered my Grizzley G4003G this morning. I got the last one that was coming in on this boat. The rest were spoken for. Got the shop wired for 220 last night. Things are moving along just fine. Should have the machine set in place in a few weeks. We'll talk more when I get up and running. Thanks fo...

Going Larger!

I am getting the shop wired for 220 and going to a larger machine. Since I like to do gunsmith work as well I have decided to get the Grizzly 4003G. T...

Grizzly G4002
Ok, After listening to your advice I think this is what I will do. First I will wire the shop for 220 power as this will let me move up on HP for the lathe. Second, I'm looing at a gear head lathe that has a lower speed of 70 RPM and does not require any gear changes to cut all inch threads. Third, ...

Thanks for the feed back
Thanks for the comments on the Grizzly G0602. Being new to the trade the machine looks good but is limited in several ways I'm seeing. You have to change gears to change feed rates. It only has one lead screw for both functions. I had not thouoght about the lower speeds for threading. That would be ...

Grizzly G0602
Grettings. I just joined the forum and need some advice on purchasing a small lathe. I have been looking at the Grizzly G0602 for several reasons. First I live in Springfield Missouri and they have a warehouse right here so I can go get it and get parts if needed. Second, it is 110 volt 1 hp and tha...
