Re: Eccentric crank material

I would use 1020 hrs. HRS needs to be skimmed all over but is a good stable material to work with. If you think you need more strength. Use 1045 Or A36. I look at it this way, If I have a crash ( likely) what may be the easiest components to replace. Don't want to make any new crank pins, expansion ...

Re: Making Louvers

I wrote a description of making a louver punch On Discover Live Steam about 15 years ago using an old arbor press, spade drill, and a vise. Search "Discover Live Steam Louver Punch" Software won't let me copy and paste the link. It is smaller than you are looking for but food for thought. ...

Re: Threading without the end groove

I can usually just pull out with the machine running at a reasonable speed. Like H said, practice, practice... We used to make cable spools for cranes and hoists. These used round nosed tools to match the cable radius. We had to stop in a drilled hole on some jobs. The King (brand name) 84 inch vert...

Re: Nylatron for bearings

I built a Case Half Scale Traction engine about 30 years ago. The valve gear is similar to a Hackworth gear. I made the sliding block out of Nylatron as well as the main crank pin. The engine would tighten up at times. It took a while to find the sliding blocks were tightening up while running. I ma...

Re: Cylinder Block Machining
