Sadly, it is all healed now. No battle scars.

I will still wear safety glasses

I was turning some gate hinge pins yesterday and a chip flew up and got snagged in my safety glasses. Got burned on the cheek while shutting it down and getting my glasses off. Looked in the mirror this morning and had blood all over my face. Oh well, glasses worked and eyes are as good as any other...

There are about 11,000 people registered on this site. Of those there are quite a few people who visit and have beneficial input. In the end there are just a handful of people in this world who lift up novices like me and offer quality suggestions for how we can improve in my hobby. Your father was ...

Re: Measuring Vacuum

I remember those days. We responded to a pickup truck fire in a large shop. Hey 30-40' ceiling height, piece of cake to extinguish. Then dispatch told us it was a propane conversion with a large tank in the bed.

Raises the pucker factor a tad... :)

Re: Measuring Vacuum

Dave, I had not considered, till I read your post, the requirements of a propane system in an automotive application. People in the 70's used propane conversions for 460 CI engines, being as propane is 90,000 BTU per gallon as opposed to gasoline at around 120,000 per gallon, those required some rea...

Re: Measuring Vacuum

36" of water column is 1.3 PSI (3 x .434). Yes that is quite a bit of pressure for a flammable gas at it final orifice point. In fact about 3 times what is customary on propane gas.

Re: Measuring Vacuum

So you are looking to measure vacuum as opposed to pressure?

Re: Turning Brake Roters on a shop lathe.

In my experience turning them is a waste of time, money and new pads. If the rotor warped when full thickness the problem will only get worse with less mass. My wife's cars have had issues most likely due to a long hill and a stop at the bottom near home. Car after car. Finally stopped it by purchas...

Re: OT gearing

I assume you are driving the 14" "wheel" with the 2600 rpm motor. If so. then your wheel is covering 36,400 inches per minute. Seems it would travel a mile in 1.74 minutes.

You would have to slow the wheel considerably to travel 36,960' in one hour.
