Re: Interlocking tower

There is a fabulous interchange plant on Pat McCarthy track in Kansas City, Big Creek and Southern. It worth the drive to make the meet just to see all those lights, switches, and the plant at night. CSME is working to add and interlock tower to control the flow of traffic leaving Eaglpoint Yard, th...

Re: CSME Double Tracking Progress

Time for an update... It seem like there is never enough dirt... I mean time... Or both actually. The usual suspects were at it again in the last few weeks and we now have the track all the way up to the twin bridges. Sorry no pictures. This last will connect the run from Saddleback all the way to S...

Re: Santa Fe gas electrics

Gas electrics.... Well this isn't exactly what you were searching for, but it is a working GAS - Electric. Paul at CSME put it together in the last few months. It is based on a Central New Jersey diesel electric. The prototype being in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum. Small gas motor pullin...

Re: Glad-Hands

A little off topic.... But are US style glad hands universal around the world? Or do other countries have other solutions?

Re: Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch tips?

WHen I was there in 2013, the shop tour was the "sure go ahead and have a look around..." Really nice guys. Which was kinda shocking given the laws and restrictions in the UK on trespassing. Everywhere you go railroads are inside fences with lots of signs talking about a 1000 Sterling fine...

So What scale for 42" Gauge???

Fellow Livesteamers, I recently returned from the far east having visited Taiwan, Hong Kong and Tokyo this time. I saw a lot 42" gauge prototypes there (mostly built in Japan by Mitsubishi or similar) and can think of a few models to build someday. My question is this, what are some good scales...

Re: Main crank pin on different axle then Eccentric on

Well, Duh.... how is it on the prototype? If you are going to build a model of 42, put the eccentrics where they go. More specifically, use the Milner design as a guide not a rule. You are changing the main rod remember? :-)

CSME Double Tracking Progress - Winter progress

Ok, time for an update. This portion of work was completed in a few work sessions between December 2018, Feb 2019 and March 2019. While water does freeze in Tennessee, it isn't impossible to keep working, that and the winter was not too harsh. The pictures are of Saddleback Wye and the dominant main...

Re: Safety chains

Another simple solution is to make a double ended choke chain from a piece of chain and 2 quick disconnects. It looks SIMILAR to the one in the picture (The picture is actual an obstetrical chain for birthing calves) but you get the idea. The difference is you don't pass the chain through the eye yo...

Re: Safety chains

Here a slightly different variant that is functionally the same and uses some #2 (?) welded link.
