Re: Help identifying photos
While looking up something in the Purinton live steam book, I noticed Bill's B&O Pacific is mis identified as the Hudson. He had a private track a few miles from his home. I wonder if there is a condo on it now?

Re: 1945 footage of New England Live Steamers in Color
I thought the little traction engine was built/belonged to John Mathews(?). This looked to be the same engine that a young Charlie Purinton is driving in the Live Steam Book by Charlie Purinton but it is not.

Re: Help identifying photos
If you can find the October 1948 Model Railroader Magazine, the cover shows Bill working on the boiler for this engine.

Re: Help identifying photos
I would say that was built by Bill Michaels of Racine Wisconsin. It was for sale a few years back on one of the sites. If you can find the November 1948 Model Railroader, the story about Bill, his engines and his chum Walley Ribbick is in there. Walley's hudson is in a case at the Tennessee Valley R...

What have we learned?
After the post for identifying pictures, we need to get better at recording the history of stuff from the recent past and the present. Identifying people, places and engines becomes more difficult as the time from when the picture or film was taken to the time when someone asks about it. Pictures an...

Re: Help identifying photos
This may solve the mystery. Here is a picture of the four Reading engines. They are numbered in the 117x series. The one in question is a different number. The picture was from a post several months ago.

Re: Valve stem question
An early way to make sure the water passage to the glass remains unclogged. As you turn the valve fully closed, then fully open when blowing down the glass, it "turbines" the passage to remove the crud that could build up and cause another 1278 incident.

NYC Niagara
On Saturday, this engine had steam in it for the first time in many years. It also allowed me to test the alcohol burner. The test went very well with only one glaring mistake made on the rebuild. With that fixed, it is back into the shop to put the rest of the details on. Hoping for a September tes...

Re: Help identifying photos
I will leave it at this. I took some pictures off the TV from a DVD given to me by a chum. He took these films at the PLS around the mid to late 60's. This is the engine I am thinking of. It looks like that engine. Can anyone identify the guy?
