Re: Twist drill prices
If you tax at the end user, the tax doesn't get rolled into the costing. When it's part of costing, it get's multiplied down the chain. The down side is the end sees it clearly.

Re: all-thread studs for clamping
Ray's Lapidary Machine Repair is the name I use . I once fixed my wife's saw. The girl behind the counter is nice to me, maybe I look like her grandfather.

Re: Got a Align Power Feeder
Wouldn't that be nice. I think I remember a song by that name. But the adapter plate would be more accurately called bearing housing/ adapter plate. When I fix something, I like to make better than new. While the table is a bit stiff at the ends of the travel, it's really sloppy at the center. I was...

Re: Got a Align Power Feeder
I watched an Align install vid on youtube, they started out with English subtitles, like "open the box", but toward the end, the important part, it was just Chinese. The subtitle was use all the shims, nothing about adjustment .That gear bushing likely should float, making adjusting the ge...

Re: Got a Align Power Feeder
Thanks for the offer. Since both the mill and the feeder are made in Taiwan, the shaft diameters are likely the same metric size, without measuring it, they do look similar. I will need a keyway . These mill/drill set the shaft length and backlash by pinning the hand cranks, screw backlash is taken ...

Re: Got a Align Power Feeder
That's a good idea about the alignment pins. I wish mine would be as easy. I looked at it some last night . Most of the power feeds for a mill/drills are basically inline, leaving the mounting bracket above and bolted to the table. the one I bought is like yours, a right angle. Looking at it, I'm go...

Got a Align Power Feeder
They were on sale at BusyBee, we were near and stopped by. It's the AL-500p model. The bracket it came with looks like it would mount to a much larger mill than my RF-45, it has a much taller four bolt mount compared to the two bolt. I guess I'm going to have to machine a new mount. :D A nice challe...

Re: feeling stupid
You don't know the history of the tap, unless it was new, the last guy might have abused it. Early on, I was chasing some threads with 1/8" pipe tap in cast iron. The tap just shattered. I'm not usually heavy handed. I thought I would really catch H from boss, but surprisingly he said "Tha...

Re: Jet 1336 PBD Lathe
For the Taiwanese lathes, finding the name of the real manufacturer isn't that easy. A lot of them have closed down, I guess the Chinese competition .I haven't found in my casual search the manufacturer of my DF1224g lathe. A common Grizzly.

Re: all-thread studs for clamping
Having used a few miles of RediRod for pulling bearings and coupling, I wouldn't be shy about using it for a milling set up. If you are going to use 1/2 " rod and tighten that much, I''ld be more worried about pulling the wings off the T-slots. We always assumed RediRod was grade three. BTW loo...

Re: feeling stupid
Maybe, maybe not, but tap metal fatigues . They dull and then they need more torque , over time that flexing causes the fatigue . You may not put any load on it but it will snap.
