Re: Late 1980's CNC trash or treasure?
What is the control? If it's a Fanuc and in working condition, it might be a good buy, but if you have to have it serviced, it will cost you $300.00 plus, just for them to walk through the door, and repair parts are EXPENSIVE . Plus, I think Hitachi is out of the CNC business. They did build a good ...

Re: Milltronics Partner 1 CNC mill
Hello; I'm looking at photo's of a Milltronics Partner 1 CNC mill on Craigslist. How do you lift one of these to load them on a Car Trailer? I see it weighs about 5000lbs. Thanks rich What control does it have? They are a good machine. For a 5,000 pound machine, I would have a machinery mover do it...

Re: BOB CAD
I had a seat of BOBCAD V23, and I spent so much time griping about it on line that Al DePaolo sent me 2 seats of V25. I couldn't make that work either. Perhaps I should explain. I am a former owner of a real CNC shop where I had a FADAL 3016 a Haas TM1 CNC milling machine and a heart attack. Now, I ...

Re: Metal slivers in your fingers
My way is really simple. I don't do any steel parts.tornitore45 wrote:No matter how careful and clean I try to work I end up with to many tiny slivers in my fingers.
The type you just feel when you rub.
Like to hear your method to avoid them in the first place and to remove them if we must.

Re: What are Reasonable Goals for Home CNC?
I have a CNC in my garage because I needed something to do. As I said below, I had a real CNC shop until 2007 when I had a major health issue that could no longer be avoided. I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what, all I knew was I was tired all the time. So much so that if I carried in ...

Re: Machines are too big
I have 6, 9, and 13 (15) inch South Bend lathes. The 9 is a school model on a cabinet with underdrive, and is my most used machine. The larger and smaller see very little activity. I wish I could get more spindle speed, but you cant do that with iron heads. The 6 can provide relief when the 9 is on...

Re: Machines are too big
I have an 11" Sheldon lathe and a 6x26 mill. I am very happy with them. I find that I am doing more and more very small machining projects, projects that would be more suitable for small tabletop machines, like Sherline. I'm never going to part with my "large" machines. Do you have a...

Re: What are Reasonable Goals for Home CNC?
I have a small CNC milling machine in my garage and I do just fine with it. I have a Tormach PCNC 1100 Series II. While I do mostly hobby work, I have one customer who makes fiber optic connectors and enclosures and I do about 90% of their short run and prototype work. My business card states "...

Re: Dial Test Indicators?
Apologize in advance for yet another DTI question thread. I searched and read some older posts but still not sure. With that said I'm looking to buy a DTI and with the budget allowing for one I thought it should measure to .0001". After reading up at Long Island Indicator I narrowed down to B&...

Re: No way to machine this?
I would machine out the big chunk, then wire EDM the rest. Even with most of the material gone, it ain't gonna be cheap. What kind of material is it? If you don't do it right, the material could warp when you machine it. My advice would be to start with oversized material and ruff EVERYTHING leaving...
