Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
To all the skeptics above ...I agree!... Plus we have all seen what acetone can do to plastics and rubber so I would not use it regularly in the fuel tank, in fact even a one use to "clean" the system is risky. If you have ever dipped a disassembled carb in acetone to clean it, as I have b...

Re: Extending shaft on an electric motor
1 you're mig welding in a VERY small area 2 I think migging it in place will result in the new shaft having a lot of runout If I needed to do it, I think I'd put a few flats on the shaft and try JBWelding your drilled extension on it. Stuff's pretty good if you don't expose it to heat. or in this ca...

Re: Which asian lathe???
Take an online look at "Sumore Tools" in Shanghi. If you're willing to work at it, you can import one yourself for way less $ than you would believe any way else. Get into the online text/email with a rep named "Kelly" and explain you're an individual, not a company, and ask abou...

Re: frozen fittings/shafts/bolts
I had the opportunity to test the heat-water-heat-water process again today. An allen head stainless steel bolt in an alloy casting, was corroded internally and clearly was not going to turn. The heat-water process had it turning well in a few minutes. The bolt was in a thru hole so the water got to...

Y know .... just about the time I think MY family's nuts ....
But then I had a relative who used to "set off" shotgun shells by taping them to the end of his BB gun ...
Yeah he's still alive today and just retired from DARPA .....!

Re: Can Capped Jugs of Acid Cause Rust?
I too live in S Florida, and I have to run a dehumidifier in the garage/shop EVERY night. If I don,t, the very next day everything is rusted...machines and hand tools as well. Muriatic is stored in the open, maybe 5 feet away, but I have seen no more rust near that spot. Didn't know there were diffe...

Re: Float charger for winter
I have used that? HF battery float charger for some time. The HF one, as I remember, had a warning about not using it on a battery that was nearly discharged??. When I tested it, it would not light even a small 12 v bulb. I found it did not deliver enough current to maintain the battery on a 1965 tr...

Re: Don't know how to thread on this lathe
Yeah it was a learning exp for me too...don't know if you need this info, but when you have a chain of "idler" gears (where another gear contacts the other side of a driven gear) you can basically ignore the number of teeth on the idler(s) and use as a count the teeth on the driving gear i...
