Re: welding boiler

There are acceptable procedures for MIG welding code boilers, I can’t remember all the specifics but it involves using flux core filler wire and shielding gas (double shield), it is not your everyday flux core wire it is a special wire specifically made for double shielding.

Re: Valve for Vacuum Brake

The small ball valves from American Model Egineering, work very well for what you are trying to do. Just leave the handle on them and build an extension with a yoke on the end that grabs the handle.

Re: Finished - sort of

Adam, I have built three steam engines and have painted all of them with Rust-oleum rattle cans, the paint has held up very well on all of them and touch up paint can be bought anywhere. The one exception is the smoke box, I use VHT header paint from the auto parts store.

Finished - sort of

After 10 years I finally finished my heavy Mikado today, sort of, still need to letter it, time it, and finish the tender. I know the pictures are upside down, no idea why, no time to fix.

Re: Cab interior

I have always been curious about that, I always wondered because it carried over to aviation, cockpits were generally painted a light shade of green up until the early 70’s, now they are pretty much all grey.

Re: will spring steel mill?

Yes it will, I drilled and slotted mine with carbide drill and mill. Works best if you stack them and clamp them tight.

Re: Slip Switch

That is the process I used for making my ties, I pretty much used there method but used fiberglass mesh for reinforcement instead of steel. I have made about 10000 ties.

Re: Slip Switch

I can tell you all about concrete ties, my entire Railroad is concrete ties (except for the switches). Like anything there is good and bad. Bad: they are very time consuming to make, that do break, when wet the are conductive and make signaling a pain, but possible, too heavy for panel type construc...
