Winnipeg propane burners

Hi all; It has been a few years since I was there, but in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the highline guys all use propane, and they all seem to work well. When I went, I was the only coal-burner (IIRC) and I had the smallest locomotive! My Tich. Unfortunately I can not remember burner details, but Joe Tanski'...

Yes, they do run...

Alan; "A SUPERB engine. I have hauled 10 people behind one, and it ran, and ran, and ran. As long as you keep them fed with coal and water, they will work all day. " When I was a kid, I went along all the time to the home of Art Ellis here in Canada. He converted a BL-0-6-0 into a 1" ...

Flying with Tich

So, when I took the flight to Winnipeg a number of years ago, after the 9/11 "security enhancements", what I did was: 1) A few days before flying, take empty box to airport, verified thanks to helpful security people that it went through the metal detectors, on its side. They had a clear p...

Re: a few more new parts on Challenger

Joe; I think posting photos is a fine tradition. You may not get a lot of immediate pats on the back, but it helps everyone. Eg: Don aka carrdo and his nyc hudson build; it is hard to comment on each picture; but they are seen. I have been taking pics of my building; unfortunately, housework (drywal...

3-1/2 on the ground.

These two look like 3-1/2" gauge on the ground - something that I have not tried.

How well does it work?

Re: Steam Cylinder Oil

Kelley; Interesting question from you; I used to use some cylinder oil that we used in CPR 1201; but that is gone. (the oil, not the locomotive) But, now my 2 little steamers have no superheat; I'm not too worried about oil. (as you may know, some live steam locomotives are designed to use no cylind...

Re: Big engines are / can be a snooze

Yeabut - you can do it with one hand; the other hand holding a beer.... (somewhere I have a photo of me shaking Tich clean with one hand; the other waving in the air as I'm chinwagging with someone - probably trying to talk them into parting with a beer... scots ancestry here! ;-) JohnS. Tich grate ...

Tich grate area

Hi Jack; The Tich is somewhere slightly below 4 square inches. A Tich is great if you like a challenge, in a small, easy to carry package, and you don't really care for riding around in circles all day; in other words, it is not for everybody! It took me many attempts and head scratchings before I f...

Re: Very Cool Video

Jack; I have had my 3-1/2" gauge Tich there, running around the track, and my 3-1/2" gauge 2-8-2. Wonderful place, wonderful people. Go, if you have a chance. My Tich had no problems doing 1 lap between fire cleanings; it had no problem with the grades; in fact, it would just "dig its...

Re: Introduction

Hi Wayne; You know, steam tractors/rollers/traction engines (take your pick) are interesting. A club member here has a "Minnie" which I think is 1:16, and another is building a 1/4" case 65hp, almost completed. (might be 1/3?? I should know...) Copper boilers are neat, and, as you kno...
