Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
Well I got a bit of bad news on Thurs. The powder coating won't get done till after the new year. The main customer that uses Gray switched parts for some needing a different colour. So I went and pick up some parts to do the masking to a more precise level to minimize cleanup after for fit and tole...

Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
When I went to install the motor mount I realized that the wires coming out of the hole in the back of the column were going to be in the way of the motor mount. After thinking about it for a bit, the only option was to put a couple holes out the side of the column.(pic 1) pic no.2 The motor mount/m...

Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
You'll notice in the 1 st pic, that the lower(inner) pulley is significantly smaller than stock. I turned this down in size so that 60 rpm becomes 39 or 40 rpm. Pic no.2 shows a new custom made speed plate/chart the reflects this. Pic no.3 shows the 5 step pulley in place. You'll notice that the lar...

Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
Well, spindle is in/sealed and ready for oil. Gearbox is together/assembled and sealed-ready for oil. Finishing the gearbox was some doing. The first time I already had RTV on it and tightened but the engagement rod/lever for the backgear gave too much mesh/too little backlash. So on-off on off and ...

Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
Got the knee/related parts assembled and set up.
Backlash is .002-.0025 thou.
I'm working on the horizontal spindle now.
If any Rockwell owners out there have questions
about certain specific aspects of the rebuild or
how parts go together, now is the time to ask.
Don't wait a year or 2.

Re: ROCKWELL 21-122 milling machine REBUILD
WELL ...I'm finally back to working on the mill. After a lengthy hiatus of making chips on the Chipmaster with various projects and buying more tools. So first I needed to change the tool box situation to make room for all the measuring instruments and tooling so everything is organized and efficien...

Screw thread micrometer Question??
Any members here have a Mitutoyo thread micrometer?
What is the diameter of the shanks on the interchangable anvils?
Looking to buy a Mitutoyo and wondering if the anvils from a VIS
will fit?

Re: Enlarging Involute Cutter IDs
Sorry. I re-read the OP and didn't see it was being used in the Horizontal mode. So nix my first idea. If you're committed to using the 22mm ID cutters the I would suggest taking a 7/8" horizontal arbor and turning down a short section at the outboard end to 22mm or .866 on 8 or 9 thou. You won...

Re: Enlarging Involute Cutter IDs
My suggestion Is buy a R8-JT4 drill chuck arbor. It will be hardened to some extent. You can buy one fairly inexpensive @ Toolots, a lot less than the shipping cost of a 22mm stub \arbor from europe. Dial in very carefully. Turn down the taper to 22mm or fit to cutter. Now you have a 22mm stub arbor...

Mill TYPE ??
I present this question only for posterity's sake or information gathering. 35v years ago or so I remember seeing in a Thomas skinner catalog: A type of mill drill branded First. It had a Bridgeport style head and a round column 5 or 6 inches dia. No ram or knee. Basically a mill drill w/larger base...

Re: lathe used in movie ???
Thanks Jon. It is indeed a 5900 series a 5914 VS. From the look of it I assumed it was a 14" lathe with an 8" chuck. But ... they came as a 12" x 36 lathe, with no larger size in the 5900 series So it was a 6" chuck with about 3" of air below it-12". And the vari-speed ...
