Pete, thanks for that idea, I didn't even consider it. Those fixtures are farily cheap and make total sense.Inspector wrote:Rather than removing the chuck from the lathe and mounting it in the mill, have you considered one of the collet fixtures mounted and centred in the mill? Pete

Re: 5C collet chuck
That might work Glenn. The reason I wanted the chuck though is so I can adapt it on the mill too. My plan is to take it from the lathe to the mill with the parts so everything remains in line. The way I do it now is with a 3 jaw soft jaw set up. I turn the parts on the lathe, then mount the chuck in...

Re: 5C collet chuck
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Pete, you’re probably right in having to deal with Grizzly cause Garrant in QC doesn’t carry collet chucks. Nor do Busy Bee and I can forget KBC they are out in left field when it comes to pricing. Rustyh, Thanks also for the suggestion but KMS doesn’t sell collet ch...

5C collet chuck
Did a search on the board and got 1543 hits but nothing really related to my question. I have a couple of questions I'd appreciate some input on. 1. Is there a supplier in Canada anyone can recommend? I'm only coming up with KBC tools but there has to be more? 2. Should I go with a D1-4 permanently ...

Latest collection
Hi guys, I thought I'd share my latest reel collection. I consists of 10 reels and gets the name from the compression mechanism hidden inside the guts which is just a fancy method of stopping the reel from spinning when you don't want it to. Thanks for looking..... http://imageshack.us/a/img443/8213...

Re: 4" Rocket Nozzle
That's really cool DrDavo, I was just at the Smithsonian in Washington looking at all the rocket exhibits. I've always been intrigued with rocket engines and had a desire to build them even as a kid. Never did of course but someday.

Now that would have been cool to see. Just how old are you Harold? kiddingHarold_V wrote:I watched, with pleasure, as P.O. Ackley straightened a barrel he had made. All done by hand (with a press), with visual inspection.

Re: Tell me about machining with ceramic...
There's some good advice from two seasoned machinists. If I can add one thing I practically abandoned my 4 jaw once I learned about soft jaws. btw Harold, I like your Selmer comment... I miss my selmer super action 80 series ii! damn house down payment fixed that when I bought my first home :x still...

Re: Shipping equipment over the border
Actually, what ticks me off even more are the rapists at UPS, who sometimes charge more for collecting the taxes than the cost of the taxes plus the item plus the shipping. The post office can do it for all of $6 or $8, so there's no reason UPS should get $60 or $80 for the same "service"...
