Re: New digital caliper wanted

Have you tried cleaning the old one? Take the head off and clean with isopropyl. If you don't want to do that, and are going to trash it, send it to me...

P.S.: I have a HF 6 in I bought in 2001 when I got my lathe. Still using it, even though the lens is cracked.

Re: Where to find Allen head studs?

Since you are making your own quick change holders ( ala Aloris ?) Just buy Aloris kits for the height adjustment screw http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INSRAR2&PMAKA=891-5917&PMPXNO=3905574 Rich If that was the only way to get those parts, I would make a broaching tool and make my...

I added a hall effect pickup to my spindle and use it with a DRO-550. I like it!

Re: Need help finding a tap

Why not make a custom tap? I had a friend that was making aero engines. He needed a 1/4-40 adjusting screw and tap for the screw. I made him a tap, and used the tap to make a nut for checking the threads , also.

Re: Beer and soda cans

Beverage cans are said to be pure aluminum with a plastic coating on the in side. Trust me when I say you are much better off selling your cans and buying/collecting previously cast aluminum. If you aren't convinced, go ahead and melt a couple of large trash bags of crushed cans and see what you get...

Re: How do you measure drill bits?

I believe it's down to the quality of the drill bits. BTW, I measure them the same way, but using my trusty(LOL) HF calipers.

Re: Shop made tap

Very nicely done! I made a custom 1/4-40 tap for a friend once. Not as nice as yours, but it did work. I even single pointed a screw to test the tap. It was for a diesel model airplane engine he was making. He lacked change gears to make it himself.

"Sorry to hear about the contractor skating before completion, that happens a lot. It is why I do or did most remodel and maintenance myself, and hired extra hands. That way I get what I want for affordable cost." What makes it worse, he was a friend, and I thought I was helping him throug...

Re: Possible uses for Tile Saw?

ctwo , if you're asking about the chain saw sharpener, no. It uses a 4 1/4" x 1/8" Aluminum Oxide wheel.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack Steve's thread.
