Re: Dake Horizontal Bandsaws

No experience with that particular model, it does look similar to a SUM FLUNG DUNG model we have at work. The SFD unit works OK , but after a year of VERY LIGHT use we broke the clamp nut - crappy casting material no doubt. I guess the biggest thing I'd want ot know: Is the DAKE made from imported c...

Re:It's not angular velocity

What you are doing when tightening a bolt is trying to accurately STRETCH the fastener to achieve a certain amount of clamping force and hopefully if properly designed it will maintain an acceptable amount of preload at various conditions - like changes in temperature for instance. There are several...

Re: tig welder

You need ac hi-freq for aluminum - it provides the cleaning action necessary for sound welds. Depending on your location - it might be relatively easy to find a used industrial unit. Sure they are BIG but are often very cheap!!!!

Re: Blowing holes in sheetmetal

There are several other factors you can apply to help "tune" your welding on thin metal. Wire size is one, but you'll find varios people swearing oen or the other is the only way - so clearly so long as you're in the ball park of reality it's not a show stopper. I'd personally use .023&quo...

Re: Does Snap-on really have the best Mig welders?

In a word NO!!! Snap On certainly makes some killer tools - no doubt, but welders ain't one of them. Several years ago I was Small Mig Shopping - the Snap on at that time was a relabeled Century Welder (if my memory serves me) - and for the Price my Miller Sidekick walked all over it hands down - on...

Re: Hand-held Electric Die Grinders

I don't know ho wit stacks up against the competition, but I have gotten excellent service from my Dumore grinder. As a matter of fact I just found a used old old one for 10 bucks - it still works perfect. I know new they aren't cheap, but good tools rarely are.

Good luck in your search.

Re: Got any raid?

Scott that looks awesome! It reminds me of a car in High School - this fella had a 72 chevelle ragtop that they machined (?) "CHEVELLE" into the rear bumper - they then back lit it - it looked very cool - especially at night.
SO when are you gonna start doing bumpers????

Re: Hey Jacin

Diyer, I don't know if Gates is the best, but I have had excellent luck with them and wouldn't hesitate to reccomend that you give them a try. I have had good luck with Dayco, but more experience with Gates. No idea about the Gates Michelin connection, but interestingly enough do yo know what AC (as...

Re: Using Cut Off Saw as Vertical Band Saw

One of the absolute best investments I made was my DoAll vertical bandsaw - that sawing handle you mention is AWESOME - I can't understand why people don't sell them today - upon thinking about it - it'd probably give the smaller saw fits as too much infeed pressure is sure to throw the blade. In an...

Re: Electron Beam Welding

Hmmnnn....I'm no expert, but the only "dewelding" process I know of is by removing metal. Now granted when TIG-ing stuff I have often placed a single tack to find out it shifted and I then just reheat it and reposition it while molten. Doing this in your application sounds difficult at bes...
