Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Just don`t smoke with the Gas tank in the cab I know, right? These were such early gas engines they didn't have fuel pumps or anything so the gas tanks were located above the engine and transmission for gravity feed. Depending on the size of the gas tank, the hoppers for the sanders were on either ...

Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Well things have slowed to a crawl on this project but I am still making forward progress. The baby is a distraction for sure, an enjoyable one at that :D . As I mentioned I had big plans for the cab interior and I have been chipping away at that. The CNC parts are finished and I have been working o...

Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

So I'm getting to the point where I can no longer continue to ignore the cab interior. My plan is to do something that I have never really seen done on internal combustion locomotives of this scale-- especially critters. I want to detail the cab interior to look like a prototype gas mechanical locom...

Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Chooch, I have no aversion to the term cute. I think narrow gauge locos are "cute", even critters. Norman I'm glad my project has helped you appreciate critters even a little bit. I think if you get to know the world of industrial railroading I think you can appreciate little locos like th...

Re: Narrow Gauge Cutting Bar info wanted

You can also fabricate brackets pretty easily. Shown is my narrow-gauge logging flat car with below-deck brake stand. The cut lever brackets are made from aluminum angle and flat stock. Definitely not as fancy as castings but not too bad really. http://wegmuller.org/v-web/gallery/albums/album98/IMG_...

Re: Narrow Gauge Cutting Bar info wanted

Actually Branchline Products are 1 1/2" scale. It's just that most of their products are used for narrow gauge models that run on 4 3/4" gauge track. I have used their products on my 1 1/2" scale narrow gauge stuff but I have not ordered the cut lever brackets before.

Regards,

Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Hi Chooch, Thanks for the comments! The motor mounts are part of the original Maxitrak mechanicals. They are quite simple. I think they could be replicated without too much difficulty. They are indeed a 3 point mount. The front single mount is the pivot. The rear twin mounts are actually the springs...

Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Ok so it looks like I have gotten sucked back into the Plymouth and the progress has been good considering my new parental responsibility. So let's get going with some pictures! http://wegmuller.org/gallery/var/resizes/Large-Scale-Models/1%3A5-scale-Plymouth/IMG_3270.JPG?m=1408951254 Chassis, belly ...

First of all, thanks for the comments everyone. I appreciate them. Re: 4 Ton Plymouth build, 1:5 scale, 4.75" gauge, Leslie Sal

Hi Guys. There are a few reasons for the silence on this project. I've had a few distractions like some vintage motorbike inspired bike projects, my section handcar build, the 1 1/2" scale ore tipple: http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=99155 and there is one other litt...

Re: Ore Tipple in 1 1/2" scale

 Hahahaha. No it's not that exotic. Just regular redwood which is plentiful here in California. Most of the material is milled from redwood fence boards and a few redwood 2x4s for the bigger stuff. The dark color comes from my homemade black stain and the wood preservative. It should weather to...

Ore Tipple in 1 1/2" scale

Hi folks, Since I can never finish one project without starting another one, (examples here on Chaski: my 4 ton Plymouth and the Scheffield section hand car) I have an entirely new project to share that just, um, popped up. A few months back I suddenly became inspired to make a structure for my rail...
