Re: Name That Tool (v3)
Those broken 1/8 in endmills look like carbide, save them and grind points on them
to use as scribers, pointers, what not.

Re: Rewinding a coil for a meter
The availability of the original wire size used in making the coil. Finding the correct size wire shouldn't be a problem I think, I did a quick search and found this place - https://www.remingtonindustries.com/ They seem to have all sizes from 14 AWG to 44 AWG, I got a chuckle when selecting a 44 A...

Re: Name of a screw and milling machine advice
Beats the heck out me, I have those very same thumb screws on my Delta drill press and small arbor press I figured they would be easy to find. I wouldn't mind knowing a source too. McMaster doesn't list them under thumb screws or wing screws, a Google image search doesn't return anything. They seem ...

Re: Brown & sharpe machine
Take a look here - http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=2185&tab=3 there are many brown and sharpe publications listed there from 1882 to 1992, I looked thru some catalogs and B&S mainly produced large horizonal milling machines, the pictures you posted of the machine don't co...

Re: Taper roller bearing removal ?
I have the Timken catalog lots of good engineering info, most of which makes my eyes glaze over. The catalog didn't have the size I need listed, the bearing place tried Timken first, since they're THE place to go for tapered roller bearings, iirc they said Timken didn't have the size I needed in the...

Re: Taper roller bearing removal ?
Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember getting a bearing from a USA brand company that was NOT made in USA... You might want to double check your 'country of origin' I've seen that in bearings bought from McMaster, Argentina and Italy come to mind. The big problem is China is producing...

Re: Taper roller bearing removal ?
SWAG stupid wild a** Guess. Looks to me like the preload was a bit tight.. Can you get a higher precision bearing in less time? Learn something new every day :) I asked about other precision classes and they said the standard was readily available, the higher precision one was harder to find, one a...

Re: Taper roller bearing removal ?
Being realistic, you will probably have to SWAG it and snug up to take out any end play and tab it over from there. Run it hard for an hour or so, take the belts off and quickly check for end play (vertical). If there is any, then you will need to take it out by adjusting the nut.. Other than freeb...
