Re: Casting a straight edge

A job well done! Silly question: Is shaped like a bridge span but the curve is interrupted by those rectangular tabs that look like a place to engrave some data. What are they for?

Re: Boring for Chuck Jaws?

The jaws may be worn or sprung. My 4 Jaws chuck is the main resident on the spindle but does not grab anything smaller than 1/4" When I am too lazy to change it I make a split bushing, when I am too lazy to make a split bushing, I install an ER16 collet closer, sleeved with a split copper pipe ...

26"? The price would be hilarious to me, no matter what.

Re: I may have found my problem...

I made a small spreadsheet for each common material in my shop, printed and laminated and stuck above my dro Same here, and then unashamedly neglected it. I am going to say some heresy here... Given that 1) I am not working for money 2) I have a small mill top speed 2000 RPM. I an more likely to ru...

Re: New Gear Tooth?

Too late but I would make also a template of the voids. It may be easier to examine the "Light" than the excess material.

Re: New Gear Tooth?

Interesting and good to know. I have it in a covered small trash can (ashcan) and other than inserting a red hot piece and retrieving it, I do not stir much it as to break it down.

Vermiculite, found at the plant nursery, is a good insulator for thermal treatment.

Re: Simple Spacer vs Super Spacer VS Dividing Head vs Rotary table

If I can only have one, I would choose a rotary table that can be mounted horizontally and vertically. With Tail-Stock and dividing table give the most flexibility. Next would be a superspacer/dividinghead. Adds the functionality of a chuck that is always centered (one can mount a chuck on a rotary ...

Re: The price of brass — gasp!

If you need any other of the dozen of the most common alloy there is practically no small quantity source. Be ready to open the wallet wide.

Re: The price of brass — gasp!

I found E-bay very reasonable (compared to other sources) If you can find the right dimension without much waste.
McMaster now sells in smaller pieces at competitive prices. It was unapproachable when they sold only standard size bars.

Re: slot chisel

I would start by choosing a suitable drill size. Possibly 4 or 5 mm to maximize the metal removed. Do not break into the bore. Then remove the webs with your original plan of using the quill as a shaper.

Re: I found it!

I had a similar story. Missing the 6" (satin) rulers. Fractional and decimal. Broke down and repurchased all 4 Fractional, decimal, rigid and flexible.
The originals did not take much to show up. They have a specific place to be stored but that does not always work.
