Ooh, I feel your pain! I suppose you already know it, but, particularly if this is a new machine, the "manly" thing to do would be to offer to replace it for him. You could then take the damaged one, fix it and keep it or sell it as is. Tough lumps to take, for sure, but as mistakes go, it...

The most important thing I "discovered" about drill bits is the 135-degree split point style. It took a while, but I've switched over to them for all my drill sets, and don't expect I'll ever miss the old 118 degree ones. Split point bits start without wandering, and cut more easily, too. ...
