Re: CAD system
I've had Draftsight for at least five years. I occasionally get an email, but it's infrequent. It's free, and about equally functional to a copy of AutoCAD Lite that I bought for $200 about 15 years ago. AC Lite went nonfunctional when I got win 7 and they wanted some outrageous price for the curre...

Re: CAD system
I can second the Draftsight suggestion. It will open AutoCad files and is reasonably easy to use if you are familiar with AutoCad. I would have stayed with my AutoCad 2000 but they will not make an installer for 64 bit systems for their older software. When Grant Carson suggested Draftsight, I downl...

Re: GS-1 Tender, finishing up the hard way
Fresh from the shops, SP GS-1 #4403 is hustling a set of also recently out-shopped cars to a distant station to be put back into service. Fall colors are a sure sign that the holiday rush is about to begin and the ESPEE wasn't about to let their valued customers miss the train due to lack of equipme...

Dave,
Looking forward to your reports. Some of the nicest work I have seen have come from the simplest of tooling. In the long run it is the craftsman that makes it all happen.

Re: GS-1 Tender, finishing up the hard way
Put the tender together for the SPH&TS visit. The flex oil lines on the tender worked well so the locomotive end fittings will be made and installed. Having the oil shut off handle in easy reach was a big plus as early on the fire was a bit finicky and went out on its own several times. I liked ...

Nice find, thanks for the link. The heat treating info alone is worth the visit not to mention all the other gems he shares.

Re: My Southern Ms4 Tender Project
Oh my goodness, that is one sweet piece of work! Looks like 1-1/2" scale, maybe? Are the re-railing frogs bought or did you make them? Need a couple for my tender and yours look like they would be right at home on it. Thanks for the photo's and any construction details you could share with us w...

The equivalent of the Neise Modern Tools Universal bender is still being manufactured in the USA by Oxford General Industries (located in Conn.) under the name Mighty-Mite Duo-mite. It is a very high quality unit with numerous high quality attachments and is priced accordingly. The above was given ...

Re: Container shelving layout suggestions
If I recall correctly the shipping container my dad has shows no signs of condensation on the inside. He lives just South of Sacramento, California. Our club, Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum, has at least three containers on site and the next time I am out there I will ask if any mod...

Re: GS-1 Tender, finishing up the hard way
Oh my, Looking at one of the photo's previously posted and severe embarrassment set in. I cannot believe the mess my work table was in. So, off came everything, found some rust below the vinyl sheet used to cover the table. Some massaging with a cup brush on the Makita, some bright silver spray pain...
