Re: Refurbishing an old Delta 220 drill press
I found that full strength Mr Clean will remove most latex paints, but probably won't touch the original, underlying paint on the badge. No guarantees -- the top paint might not be latex and I confess to never trying this on a badge -- but might be worth a shot. I always wondered how they painted th...

Mulling over a lathe, have a spindle mount question
I'm mulling over a Le Blond Dual Drive lathe (http://www.lathes.co.uk/regal/page4.html). It has an L00 spindle. Any big 'gotchas' with that? I gather they are much less common than the D spindles, but are there any limitations with them?
Thanks.

Re: Advise on making these parts
As designed, won't you be limited to material 1/2" wide? Anything wider and the material will be bent by the raised sides on the female wheel. I would think you'd want both wheels to be smooth, with a way to adjust the distance between them to compensate for the differing thickness of the mater...

Very cool.
What fuel?
What altitude will it reach?
I assume you have a way to track it for retrieval?

I still have a carbide miner's light that belonged to my father. I played with it quite a bit as a kid.
Can you even by calcium carbide anymore?

Re: How to measure a curve...
I'm not sure how small they come, but if it is not a 'regular' curve, a French curve template can sometimes be useful in detecting that.

Re: keep blowing fuses
Are the new fuses the same as the OEM fuse? There are different type of fuses, one of which is a "slow-blow" fuse, that allows for momentary current overflows to pass without the fuse blowing.

Re: Why is it called a "Johnson bar"?
From the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnson_Bar_(locomotive) "Historians have not identified the reasons why engineers called the reversing lever a Johnson Bar, but the reversing lever is described in both British, and American railway journals of the time. The best accredi...
