Re: Barber-Bettendorf Swing Motion Caboose Trucks
If you are looking for 1-1/2" scale, are you aware of Ben Viola and his swing motion caboose trucks? He is the owner of “The Roundhouse” in southern Ca., His phone no is 714-717-8726 (cell) and email is btrainman1@aol.com. Give him a call. He has sold many pairs of his trucks.

Re: 1-1/2" Scale Re Railer Sets
Kind of an interesting story on these. When Jack and I needed these for the Berkshire, the guys back on the 765 took the prototype rerailing frogs, loaded them into the back of a pickup truck and took them to be scanned. The sent me the scans which I cleaned up and had Shapeways make the masters fro...

Re: Harold “Nick” Wantiez
It was probably late '80's or 1990 when Nick called me and wanted to meet Irene Lewis. So I called Irene, and Charlene and I met Nick at her home (Little Engines) where I introduced Nick. Nick had a very enjoyable visit. In typical Irene fashion, Irene asked me if we had eaten dinner and I told her ...

Re: filling a hot boiler
pat1027: The intent was to be able to immediately refire the locomotive. The scenario would have gone something like this. - Blowdown valve leaking at around 40 psi. - Bring boiler up to full pressure and see if the leakage of the offensive blowdown decreases to an acceptable and manageable level, o...

Re: filling a hot boiler
I’d better renege on making that video as I would probably make a mess of things next time I tried it. I will admit that I do walk away for at least an hour after the pressure is zero before I do the change out. To digress for a moment from the topic of this post, it would not be the first time when...

Re: filling a hot boiler
Well, I guess I've done a lot of foolish things in my life. I let the pressure get down to zero, or very near it, put on the appropriate hand protection, and swap away. I usually walk away and let things cool down a bit more after the pressure reaches zero, but there is still hot water in boiler. At...

Re: filling a hot boiler
Blowdown-1.jpg I agree with Marty and Berkman. Dropping the firebed would not have even been part of my methodology for the situation at hand. I would have brought the engine up to full pressure to see what the offending blowoff cock did. Those blowoff cocks leak, by design, when there is no or lit...
