The quality seals pdf had a very helpful practical example.
My biggest mistake was not the depth but the width (way too narrow).
This feels much better, way less drag but can feel the pressure seal.

allen brake cylinder machining
I have machined the cylinders and now doing the pistons.
The piston itself is sliding free (approx 0.003"). How deep is the groove for the O-ring?
I am assuming the 0-ring should be proud of the piston but don't know how much!
How stiff should the piston slide?
