Re: Recommendations for floor type drill press
Glenn, Yes as you stated there is a way to hold the table but when raising or lowering I'm usually looking for a 3rd hand!
This is where a true metalworking drill press comes in handy with the handle. Sometimes needed when center drilling and then step drilling to larger sizes.

Re: Recommendations for floor type drill press
... upgrade ... I thought I'd add a few comments ... I have two! First I would recommend 3-pulley as most versatile. Delta similar to that shown. Note the table is square, typically intended for wood working. It was purchased new (60+ yrs ago) by my father and I still have it. I don't use it regula...

Jack, as always enjoy learning and seeing your individual steps. at the top of page 78 ... Here they have been zoomed off with a slitting saw. They will now be silver soldered to the side sills. I can't visualize your setup? Is this a slitting saw in the mill or ?? The stick would have to be vertica...

Re: Computer controlled speedometer, etc..
I recently went through this exercise. Visit your local bike shop! I've always had wired and yes I prefer actual speed. Couldn't really find anything locally so I went wireless. As mentioned some go down that small (4"+) while others do not. One thing I found interesting was scooters need the s...

Jay Leno drove in with another steam car. Not sure this was a steam car? https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1129871_1922-wills-sainte-claire-on-jay-leno-s-garage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOACRzMDN1k It has the very distinctive "(wings down) goose hood ornament"! Had a great time o...

Re: H16-44 Lowey Style Drawings?
Dick, Both the Southern and LIRR locos shown are Phase 1 units. Subsequent units were Ia, II and III. Note the NH unit does not have C-Liner trucks, it was 11/50 so it's the earliest of those shown in this thread so far! I don't think you will find 15-44 units with those trucks as that was too early...

... As for 7-1/2" the explanations range from from typo's in letters in the early days ... I've always heard the 1/4 and 1/2 are on the same typewriter key ... internet images appear to support that theory! [Yes, I'm old enough to have used a typewriter for middle/high school reports.] https:/...

Thanks John!
We have a couple of these in our club. I'm told they are based on the article but not built exactly to plan.
Dave
PS: I realize the original poster was looking to purchase. This thread went a slightly different direction but maybe others will find the information useful?

Looking at the LSORR online index and my back issues Sep/Oct '99. Article is 5 pages.Bill Shields wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:39 pm Live steam magazine ran an article on one a while back.
It's a four wheel sit-on model with handle that is push/pull motion. BOM is included.
