If you’re making Bronze piston valves try to use the same Bronze the cylinders are made of,not brass ,I have had great luck with fine grade gray iron piston valves running in cast Bronze cylinders.the reason. I like the iron is that is has an open grain which holds steam oil preventing wear,and the ...

Yes I did,on a bronze cylinder block ( old 3/4 frank birch design pacific) after two or 3 years of running valves leaked like crazy,) opened up cylinder valve chests and found plating flaking all over the valves,just like a car bumper when salt hits it it flakes. Do not use the chrome plated material,in time it will flake off,also to hard on surface,stick with plain old gray iron,which will hold oil when running
Will last for years with no wear.

George lords One inch gg1 now lives in Eden NY this is the one that ran a PLS for years on the ground one inch track with George sitting on top of it runs once in a while on our high line,been repainted in Pennsylvania colors ,owner building a ground 1” multi gauge ground track to run it on
