Semple V-twin compound engine

A friend of mine while in Florida picked up castings for a partially completed compound V-twin engine which he believes is a Semple. He is looking to purchase a copy of the prints or any other info which might be available for this engine. The rough cylinder casting bores are 2.75" and 4.5"...

Re: Union Pacific police

In this hobby, it will be the people like Connie Miracle and Robert Dustin who are producing UP decals that will have to apply for licenses and the rest of us who will have to pay for those licenses. Our useage of those decals on our own equipment will not be covered even if we eventually sell that ...

Re: OT: Towing vehicle

Rowland: I'll answer for Don since I have the same engine/transmission combo. It is a five speed and it has a locking torque converter. There is also a button in the end of the shift lever to change between standard and tow/haul shift points. Tow/haul mode raises where the transmission shifts both u...

Re: OT: Towing vehicle

Being the cautious kind of guy I am and knowing that the Duramax engine was only a year or two in production, I purchased the extended powertrain warranty. If it does have a problem, it will bite someone else in the wallet. I previously owned a Ford box van with the 7.3L non-turbo diesel and was gen...

Re: OT: Towing vehicle

I have to put in a plug for my wonderful Chevy. It is a '02 (couldn't let that 0.0% financing go by!) 2500 HD crew cab short bed (with a cap) 6.6L Duramax diesel with the Allison automatic tranny. General cruising and also with my Allen Mogul in the back with all the traveling supplies I get 18 MPG ...

Re: Decisions.....

If the plate you have is cold rolled material, be sure to have it normalized before you begin milling/cutting. The internal stresses in the material will cause it to warp when yu start removing material. Many use ball bearings for the drivers allowing a loose fit in the journals to allow for uneven ...

Re: The Train

The train in Silver Streak is the Burlinington Pioneer Zephyr, which is now restored and on display in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. It starred in the movie before it ever entered revenue service for the railroad.
