Need a mounted 1" hard Arkansas grinding ball.

Post by neophyte »

Anyone know where I can get one ? Black Arkansas would be great if I could get it. I use it to lightly chamfer the muzzle on a squared cut of a
12 ga. slug gun. I have used other options but finding this tool would really help. I need it hard and fine.

Need some help out there.

If you can't get hold of a mounted stone, you could use a steel ball bigger than the bore (or a marble if you can find one) and some grinding compound. It might take a little longer but will do the job.

Lapping compound tends to embed itself into the softer item being lapped and cut the harder. Copper, brass, or mild steel ideally mounted on a valve lapping tool would cut much quicker.

You will be hard pressed to find a mounted Arkansas stone like you seek. It is a mined natural mineral difficult to shape and unpredictable to spin.

You may have to settle for a molded man made abrasive. These folks have a broad selection. Ask what they have to offer.

Find the material, have them made.

Neophyte: I took a look at the Modern Abrasives website and they have a lot of stones. Did you see anything there that fit the bill for you? Rick
