Bummer, I've been back to the range on and off for the last year and can not re-produce the 4 shot group. Close, but no cigar!

For one, I've not been able to get a perfectly calm day like the one I had last year!

And then, I'm not practicing like I once did either.

Still fun though...

I did speak a bit with some of the other guys who are regulars at the club and they have said the same thing. Our range tends to not shoot good groups except on a calm day due to wind swirls across the range even when the wind looks like it is straight at you.

Maybe somday I'll be able to hit that perfect day but I'm not going to hold my breath!

I just now finally noticed that you are from Springfield Mo.

Do you happen to know a fella named Derek Ferguson? He's a little pencil neck guy of about 75" tall and last I saw him tipped the scales around 325. He retired from the City of Springfield a few yrs ago and is also a gunsmith in Rogersville.

just ask'n

Here's one of mine.

Of course, this was at 25 FEET, not even yards, much less 300 of them.

Of course, on the other side of that coin, I was using a cheap rifle that maybe a few hundred Boy Scouts had handled over the past two months (and for two months each year going back several years).

One time I had a really nice group - right on the edge of the paper (the rear sight wasn't even screwed down).

But one of those waddled back 308 caliber I must say it is one sweet accurate rifle. With my own loads I can hold inch and have group 300 yards.

Using hand reloads?

Hand loads? Yes!

I've taken factory loads apart for people just to show them how much the loads vary in powder weight. The last batch I took apart was some Remington 270 SP hunting loads. The powder weight ran a whole 2 grain range up and down the scale over the 20 loads that I took apart.

If you want accuracy you have to have repeatability! That means a lot, not just powder weight. [case weight, bullet weight, concentricity, primers and so forth].

When the Chrono says Dup, Dup, Dup, Dup you have it right! {Meaning it recorded the same speed as the load before}
