silver solder alluminum

Is it possible to silver solder aluminum?, the project I wish to build can either be made of aluminum or brass, I would prefer aluminum cause its easier to cut..TIA GaryD

I am unaware of any silver soldering processes for aluminum, which is difficult to solder. It has the ability to oxidize rapidly, which contributes to the problem. Add to that the fact that silver solder often melts about the same time aluminum does. If memory serves, there is a zinc alloy that can be used with success.

Others may have a totally different view on this subject. I do not profess to understand it well.

I have decide to go ahead and make it with brass, when I get it cut and ready to put together I will show pictures..GaryD

I had to do this in my youth when I needed to repair a starter motor (Vauxhall HC Viva) with Aluminium stator coils, I found a local jeweler who was willing to help once he found out I was working on my car but can't recall the details, just that I was able to solder a copper conductor to the Aluminium stator,
