It looks like no cover there. Did you purge the regulator and lines? It takes a minute or two to get the atmosphere outta the hoses..

Otherwise I dunno what is wrong, polarity, wire, What? did you atart with a listed speed-feed on the dials and go from there.

I think Dave is correct. Making sure that the gas is on, lift the tension bar and hold down the trigger for ten-fifteen seconds then latch the tension bar down. Everything should work fine at 20 cfh using the Autoset. I haven't done much with my 211 yet (230 VAC wiring not done) but the Autoset works fine on anything from 24 AWG to 3/16 on 120 VAC. (And as Ken mentioned, keep the gun close to the work and oriented almost vertical to best flood the puddle area with gas.)

Cheers,

Big Dave,

That was my thought when I saw the results, no cover. I did not purge the regulator and lines. I did lift the tension device like Randy suggested and held the trigger to get the gas flow set to 20CFH but maybe I need to do that again to make sure it's purged. I'll give that a try. I do have the polarity set correctly and used Millers recommended speed-feed.
Per Ken's suggestion I may have had the nozzle too far away from the weld puddle also. So I have a few things to try. My guess is that it's a combination of all of the suggestions given.

Thanks guys! I'll give them a try and go from there.

EDK:

Use a backwards rolling C gun movement when stab(foreward) welding or

drag(backwards) welding and your beads will improve to professional

quality.Hint! C clamp two pieces of 2x2 angle iron on detail to be welded

on(1/2 inch distance on each side of bead),and use as guide. Keep your

gun tip distance 3/8"-1/2" From base metal and set your regulator

(flowmeter) to 25lbs and try to use 0.35 wire as much as possible.

Using as large as a spool as possible will save you money!

Good Luck! Machineman007

Thanks machineman.

Welding season doesn't start until it gets into the upper 40s so it'll be awhile before I get back to some welding practice but I'm looking forward to improving my success rate this spring. :D

Remember to open the valve on the cylinder completely. They only seal completely open or completely closed.
Horsepower and torque are useless unless you can get them to hook up with the road.
